Sergey Vladimirovich Serebryannikov was born on May 27, 1952 in Monino, Moscow region. In 1975 he graduated from the Electromechanical Department of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) and started working at the department of Electrical Materials and Cables.
In 1987 he defended his PhD thesis. In 1990 he was awarded the title of associated professor. Since 1994 he worked as Deputy Vice-Rector of MPEI for scientific work. In 2004 he became Dr. Sc. in Engineering.
From 2004 to 2005, he was the First Vice-Rector of MPEI – Vice-Rector for scientific work. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Professor.
In 2004–2021 S.V. Serebryannikov was the Head of the FTEMK Department. In 2005–2013 he was the Rector of MPEI. He is currently a professor of the FTEMK Department. In 2008–2014 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Russian energy companies Rushydro, IDGC Holding, Rossetti, FGC.
S.V. Serebryannikov is the author of more than 200 guidance manuals, scientific and technical publications, a member of Expert Council on power engineering, electrical engineering and cable industry under the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
S.V. Serebryannikov was elected a full member of the Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences of the Russian Federation, the Chief Scientific Secretary and a member of the Presidium of the Academy. He is a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission on Energy, Electrification and Power Engineering, a member of the NTS EES (NP), a member of the Scientific Council of the University of the European Energy Forum (Berlin, Germany).
