RESISTANCE OF ELECTRICAL AND OPTICAL CABLES IN THE GROUND TO SEISMIC VIBRATIONS AND SHOCK LOADS

K.K. Abramov, Cand. Sc. (Engineering), Leading Research Scientist, JSC VNIIKP;

A.G. Koriakin, Cand. Sc. (Engineering), Head of Test Laboratory,JSC VNIIKP, Assistant Professor of the PTEMC Department, MPEI

Abstract. The article presents models of transverse and longitudinal deformations of a cable in the ground under the exposure to mechanical loads arising as a result of sinusoidal and shock seismic vibrations. Methods for calculating the limits of cable deformation using the limit deformations of the soil are proposed, taking into account not only the strength characteristics, but also the acceptability of some deformation of the cable in the transverse and longitudinal directions while maintaining (fully or partially) its operability.

The experiments were carried out mainly on cables with solid polyethylene insulation. Models of cable deformation in the ground under seismic vibrations of a sinusoidal and shock nature are presented. Criteria for comparing the seismic resistance of cables having different design solutions are proposed. This article may be of interest to developers of underground communication cables with increased protection against mechanical loads of seismic origin.

Key words: transverse and longitudinal deformations of cables; telecommunication cables; seismic vibrations; cable shock loads; ground motion during seismic vibrations; resistance of cables to the formation of transverse cracks in the soil

SOME ASPECTS OF THE FORMATION OF CORONA AND PARTIAL DISCHARGES IN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS USING ENAMELED WINDING WIRES AS PART OF THE CONSTRUCTION

Yu.A. Zelenetsky, Technical Director, Ltd. “Epsilon”;

V.K. Andrianov, Department Manager, JSC VNIIKP

Abstract.  Up until recently, the corona and partial discharges phenomena were considered in  view of their formation in high-voltage electric power transmission lines and high-voltage cables. With the beginning of application of voltage pulse-width modulation systems to energize electrical machines this issue became relevant in respect to enameled winding wires.

In this article the authors attempt to summarize the available information about the specific character of the corona and partial discharges development, as well as to interpret the main available of these phenomena as related to electrical machines with the use of enameled winding wires as part of their construction.

Key words:  corona discharge, partial discharge, pulse-width modulation
