Investigation and test methods specific for medium and high voltage power cable insulation

Annotation

Methods of testing polymer cable insulation for electrical and electrochemical ageing resistance are described. The degree of ageing is estimated using a microspectral analysis. Procedure and device for polyethylene insulation “life curve” test are described. Examples of insulation structure influence on its quality are given.

Detection of defects in cable and wire insulation during category EI-2 tests

Annotation
The article contains qualitative and quantitative assessment of cable insulation defects which can be reliably detected during category EI-2 voltage tests. Process control potentials are assessed: the limit of reliable detection of insulation imperfections is specified taking into account the engineering capabilities of the present-day test equipment.

Past, present, future. Innovative measurement technologies for cable industry

Annotation

The article gives an overview of SIKORA technologies and devices for in-line quality control of cable products. A brief description of measuring systems and devices based on sensory units, X-ray radiation, laser and optical techniques is given. Capabilities of present-day control and measurement technologies used in the production of cables with extruded insulation, high voltage cables with XLPE insulation, optical fiber are pointed out.
