Abstract.  In the perspective of information infrastructure development, the technical and economic aspects of the use of multi-core and low-mode optical fibers in transmission systems and transport network lines are considered. The task of fiber optimization with the achievement of extreme results and in the iterative process of step-by-step improvement of quality indicators is set. The fiber design is optimized in a two-criterion approach with minimization of mutual influences between spatial channels and additional attenuation from losses at the boundary of the optical sheath. Quartz fibers with a standard diameter of 125 μm and an enlarged size of 250 μm with a core number of 2–16 and a number of modes of 1–4 were chosen as the object of the study. In the area of 2–64 channels for telecommunication transport fibers, the quality indicators are defined as the achieved result. The efficiency of the type is considered: the achieved result, the required result and the resource used. A complex of efficiency varieties is built with the frequency, wave and spatial resource and the result in the form of bandwidth, symbolic velocity and the number of spatial channels. Numerical values of spectral efficiency, spatial efficiency, spatial-velocity efficiency, spectral-spatial efficiency are calculated. A quality indicator is given – the aggregate signal-to-noise ratio reflecting the effect of crosstalk in a multichannel fiber on the aggregated bandwidth of the light path. The price of the line per bit of transmitted information and the income from the user's rental income from telecommunication transport with multichannel fibers are considered. Numerical values of income in monetary units of the tariff type for data transmission along a unit length line with a unit rate are calculated. The annual income from the use of multi-channel fibers in the transport network at a distance of 1000 km is estimated at (2–5).104 ДЕ. The presented set of technical and economic indicators can be used when choosing options for boosting the capacity of the transport network in its further modernization.

EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON OF METHODS FOR TESTING OIL-RESISTANT, NONCROSSLINKABLE, HALOGEN-FREE COMPOUNDS FOR CABLE SHEATHS

A.O. Novikov, Cand. Sc. (Engineering), Head of Complex Test Laboratory, Ltd. NPP Spetskabel;

N.E. Molchanov, Cand. Sc. (Engineering), Head of Testing Center, Ltd. NPP Spetskabel

Abstract. The article considers two regulatory test methods in force in Russia for resistance to oil, fuel and solvents: GOST IEC 60811-404 2015 and GOST 25018 81, as well as variations of oil resistance tests. A comparative characteristic of the methods and correlation of the test results is presented for various liquids and test object materials. The cable sheath materials were aged in test environments for 24 hours at a temperature of 100 °C. Possible sources of deviations in the results are shown, and the need to adhere to a particular methodology is justified.

Abstract. The article describes the concept of the "refractive index profile" and its effect on the main characteristics of optical fiber as an information transmission medium, such as mode composition, dispersion, numerical aperture, attenuation, etc. The methods of measuring the refractive index profile are described, and examples of refractive index profiles for various telecommunication fibers obtained as a result of the study made.

VALERIA ALEKSEEVNA GOLUBTSOVA – Director of the MEI in 1943–1952. On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the MEI

A.V. Dolgov, Lead Engineer, NRU "MEI"

Abstract. In 2025 the Moscow Power Engineering Institute celebrates its 95th anniversary. It is worth to recall the most important period of the Institute establishment and development, as well as the role of Valeria Alekseevna Golubtsova, who became director of the Institute as a post graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering Materials and Cables. Under her leadership, with the full support of the academic staff and teaching team, the MEI has become the main institute for training specialists in the energy, aerospace and nuclear industries.

Valeria Alekseevna, possessing statesmanlike thinking and vision of the goals to be achieved, created the Institute that has become one of the leaders in the higher technical education development.

ELECTROPROVOD PLANT CELEBRATES ITS 240th anniversary

E.B. Vasiliev, Cand. Sc. (Economics), Full Member of the RF Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences

Abstract. The article presents the historical facts about the formation of the gold thread factory that belonged to Semyon Alekseev, the 2nd guild merchant, and which became the predecessor of the current Electroprovod plant. It tells about the two-century way of the plant development, its outstanding leaders and scientists who made a huge contribution to the development of the Russian industry. The history of the Electroprovod plant is valuable due to the fact that many enterprises of the cable and electrical industry were created on its basis. An important fact is that if a person is talented in many ways it is about one of the factory directors – Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavsky (Alekseev).

Key words: gold thread production, history of the cable industry development, new technologies and new materials, revolutions and wars, historical and cultural traditions.
